It’s now official – Qeep was chosen by the Mobile World Congress as one of the top 5 mobile internet services. The MWC held it’s conference in Barcelona this year and is a huge event for everything mobile-related: Mobile phones, mobile software and of course mobile communities.

After a fun long-weekend of celebrating Karneval here in Cologne we are excited to share a quote from Rob Conway, CEO of GSMA:

When we first had the idea to make a Valentine’s Day special for you all, everyone was excited. Valentine’s Day + the qeep community – couldn’t be a better match, we thought.
We worked hard together to pick out and collect the photoblog greeting cards, the sound-guys pulled together some matching Sound Attacks and the great Qeepmaster wrote the QMS to everyone.

Glad we did it because our hopes were right – the Valentine’s Day special was a big success! The top valentine’s photoblogs has been sent 20,000 times. We think that’s pretty cool considering there were only 30 to pick from. We’re glad that we could offer a hand and we hope you had fun making new friends and telling the ones you already have, how cool and special they are.

We’ve added some new features to qeep!

First of all, As a 2009 special, we’re offering everyone a FREE mobile ringtone to download. Not just any ringtone, but actual copies of all of our soundattacks that you all are familiar with. You can find the downloads in the Sound Attacks section.  Just pick your favorite Sound Attack and then click “set as ringtone”.

Secondly, we’ve made some privacy updates to give you more privacy control. Now you have the option block users whom you do not want to have contact with or you do not want to see your profile, etc. It’s very simple and once the user is blocked, you’ll not be contacted by him or her again.

From 0 to 1,000,000 with members from 203 different countries, this is really huge moment for us.

I still remember the beginning of qeep. “Why are there no friend networks for mobile phones? Would definitely be more practical,” we asked ourselves, and the idea was born. In the middle of 2006 came the first beta version of qeep! Finally… The first photoblog was posted and a few weeks later the whole team sat down and thought of the first sound attacks. After that came games and with the help of an intern we chose Quadrix.

It’s hard to believe that it’s only been 2 years. The international version then came at the beginning of 2008, so just one year ago. By September 08 we had 500,000 users from over 190 countries in our network! The creation of an IT department, new coworkers from India, Indonesia, Africa and the U.S., a new server and of course a nice new office and here we are. We’re very proud of qeep.

Starting in February ‘09, qeep’s Top Ambassador of the month will get a new Nokia 5320!

For any newcomers to qeep, here’s another look at the rules:
In your mobile, open qeep and go to the qeep start page and click on the link to “The Greatest Qeepers”
In there are many top 10 lists, including the “Top Ambassadors”.  If your name is sitting at #1 on that list on the last day of the month at 12:00, you’ll get the Nokia – guaranteed!

How do you get to the top of that list?  Invite your friends to qeep!  If you don’t win one month, no worries… every new month that begins, the game starts over and everyone is at 0 again.

On qeep there are members from over 200 different countries and each day more than 5000 new users sign up! But… there’s always room for more!
