Of Swazis and Swiss

Last week, it was announced in this blog, as well as elsewhere, that the qeep network has exceeded 100,000 users. What we didn’t tell you is that those qeepers come from over 150 different countries!

With over 80% of the world’s nations represented on qeep, we’ve got plenty to be excited about. And we’re not the only ones. Qeep enthusiasts have written about our network in Spanish and Russian. Forums across the web are buzzing with talk about qeep.

Who needs a seat in the UN? We can start our own!

Best of all, we’re reaching places where social networking is just beginning. There are five times as many Qeepers from Swaziland as there are from Switzerland.

And you thought that title was just gibberish, didn’t you?

We’re at the start of something exciting. Social networking is bringing people together in ways scarcely imagined just a few years ago. It’s happening for free, and it’s happening right here.

Woo… gives me goosebumps.

Qeepers 100,000 Strong!

The guys over at Mashable.com, one of the web’s top sources for social networking buzz, have broken the story on qeep’s latest landmark. Out network population has surpassed 100,000 users!

Just think about how many people that is. We’re talking a population larger than some entire nations!

Qeep: +100,000

– Grenada: 89,000

– Andorra: 70,000

– Lichtenstein: 35,000

– Vatican City: Pope

So, clearly, we’re at least as cool as any of those countries. Our next project: getting a seat in the UN. We’ll keep you posted on that one.

¡Viva la qeep!

Spring Is Here at qeep HQ

Author: Greg

May 9, 2008

We can see sunny skies through our windows here at Qeep Central. The winter blahs have left us behind, and we’re looking at the qeep-green walls of our office wishing we were out on the lawn.

Unfortunately, we can’t go outside. We have to stay here and work on qeep. For you.

But that’s okay. Margarat Atwood once wrote, “In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” Qeep is still in its spring season, so we try to “smell like dirt” by the end of our day, getting soil under our nails as we help the qeep community grow.

We hope you’re enjoying nice weather, too. Visit friends. Go for a hike. Explore. Take your mobile phone with you and blog a photo or two. Qeep lets you see adventures unfold all across the world while they’re still happening. So share your story.

…Of course, the weather might be terrible where you are. If it is, then why not challenge somebody with good weather to a game of “Battleships?” You can help your opponent “smell like dirt” by rubbing their face in it. That’s an adventure too, after all.

A Word About Ads…

Author: Greg

May 5, 2008

I know what you’re thinking.

“Why have I been seeing advertisements in qeep lately?” Many Qeepers have been asking that question, so we thought you deserved an answer.

Ads help keep qeep free. As the qeep community has gotten bigger, it’s also gotten more expensive to support. We want to keep qeep open to everyone who wants to be a member. So rather than charge a mandatory fee, we’ve begun selling advertisements.

Again, I know what you’re thinking.

“Yeah, yeah, ads are everywhere. But I liked it when qeep was ad-free.” We did, too, and believe me, we thought long and hard before we started posting ads. We always want to make qeep better, never worse. So when it comes to ads, here are two things for which you can always count on from qeep:

1. You’ll never see an ad from a product we don’t like. If an ad appears in qeep, it’s for a product we think is cool.

2. We’ll keep ads from interfering with your qeep experience. You’ll never see a qeep ad while photoblogging or playing a game. Ads will only appear when it won’t interrupt you and your friends (e.g. during loading screens).

And qeep in mind: this is a community. So if you have something to share, please let us know. We’d love to hear from you. Drop us an email at help@qeep.net, or send a QMS to the Qeepmaster.

And if you really want to be nice, you could send a handwritten letter to:

qeep
Gottfried-Hagen-Str. 20
51105 Cologne, Germany

We love calligraphy.
